Wolf hybrids kill mini horse - video

Riverside County Animal Services officials are searching for one of two wolf-dog hybrids that killed and ate part of a miniature stallion in his corral at the Bar H Ranch near Lake Mathews on Thursday. The two wolf-dogs were shot by a ranch hand about an hour after the attack, but one was able to escape, and animal officials have set a cage trap to capture it. A third wolf-dog hybrid also was seen in the area Friday. All three appeared to have collars that lacked license tags. It was unclear whether they got out from their yard or were dumped near Lake Mathews, a rural area south of Riverside. Their owner has not been identified. Ranch owner Chris Herron said he had just brought the 6-year-old horse, named Bojangles, home from Oklahoma. Minis can be 34-38 inches high at the shoulder. "The poor little thing was chewed to death. It probably died of pain and shock," said Susan Garlinghouse, a veterinarian who was at the ranch Thursday. She boards horses there...more

THIS IS HORRIBLE!! What are people doing breeding half wolves in civilization. This poor little mini horse had NO defense against dogs/wolves that are BIGGER than it. This ranch is not a hunting ground. The owners of these wolves should go to jail for a long time for the suffering of this little horse!! They should have to pay the owners for the little horse PLUS big fines!!! The little horse could not escape its corral to get away from these attacking wolves. It was penned in. This is NOT the Northwest where wolves HUNT!!! This is a rural community where your animals are suppose to be safe!! PEOPLE WATCH YOUR KIDS AND ANIMALS. You could be next!!!!

You can't blame the wolfdog. even though it isn't a full wolf, it still has the instincts of a wolf. Wolves have expansive territories in the wild so it's natural for wolfdogs to wander when they get out. They may or may not have had food to eat for days and stumbling upon easy prey, their instincts kicked in. this is all because of an irrisponsible owner!!! Wolfdogs aren't like normal dogs and therefore aren't normal pets! They were only dong what their nstincts told them to do!

It's ridiculous to say that a person should go to jail for the suffering of the horse. The animal did what it's instincts tell him to. The owner of the wolf dog should restrain the animals better and pay the cost to replace the horse. It sucks...it's life ....but at the end you don't even know how the animals escaped. So many scenarios but some people can't get past the emotions..smh
