One is that this area was the last to be settled and made into states. Settlers were given tracks of farm land. Other more remote and less arable land was still held by the federal government to help manage. Given how the east and other parts of the country were exploited, an awareness of the need to save wilderness, rivers, and maintain a healthy environment led to saving and regulating the use of parts of the west. Resources can be used up sustainably or just used up and gone. If we allow our resources to be used up the area's economic viability will be gone along with the natural, healthy environment that is lost to our children. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
