NMSU RODEO

National Champion Team Roping Heeler

Chance Means and Matt Garza went into the final round in first place, so they were the last to rope. They had to be 6.8 to win, and were 6.5 to be National Collegiate Champion team ropers.

Matt is a sophomore from Las Cruces who attends NMSU, and Chance is a sophomore from Buckhorn,NM who attended Central Arizona College. More good news is that Chance will be at NMSU for his junior and senior year.

Krista Norell had a nice clean run at the barrels and won 8th in the nation.

For the twelve calf ropers in the final round, there were 7 no times, with two of those being the NMSU ropers. Even with the no times, Wacey Walraven placed 9th in the nation and Arsel Allsup placed 10th.

That's five years in a row a NMSU student athlete has placed in the top five in their event, including one reserve champion and one champion.

Congratulations to coach Jim Dewey Brown for another successful year at NMSU and thanks to all of you who have supported the DuBois Rodeo Scholarship.
