Many questions arise about Mexican federal police shooting of U.S. personnel

...The press release says federal policemen were pursuing a vehicle whose riders where fleeing the scene of a crime and may have mistaken the Toyota SUV for that of the alleged criminals. This seems very unlikely, since the vehicle in which the two U.S. personnel and the Mexican marine officer were riding posted the diplomatic plates BCN 242. The Toyota SUV was chased and forced off the road when the marine officer and the U.S. personnel observed that the vehicle’s riders were carrying weapons. While trying to return to the highway the U.S. personnel and the Mexican marine were fired at by other three vehicles. According to the Newspaper La Jornada the federal police vehicles that participated in the shooting did not have plates and the federal policemen were dressed as civilians. The government of the United States has alleged that the two U.S. personnel were ambushed. El Universal determined the names of the two American personnel wounded while serving in the war against drug cartels and organized crime. Yet the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) would not confirm the identities of the two U.S. personnel injured and denied any association with their agency. The U.S. embassy in Mexico also declined to clarify what agency the two injured U.S. personnel belonged to. El Universal reported on the contradictions and confusion among the federal policemen involved in the shooting. Some of them said, they warned the Mexican marine official to stop the vehicle, but others contradict this information.
