Song Of The Day #1005
Ranch Radio's Country Roots was interrupted last week, so we return to that with our gospel tune today, which is the 1928 recording of Ain't Going To Lay My Armor Down by McVay & Johnson. Ernest Phipps was born about 1900 and died in 1968. He is said to have been “a coal miner and Holiness preacher” from the general area of Corbin, Kentucky. Ernest Phipps & His Holiness Singers recorded for Ralph Peer at the Bristol Sessions and McVay & Johnson were two members of his group. Only two songs have been found by McVay & Johnson and today's selection is one of them.
