Levi Strauss CEO Goes Full Anti-Gun, Paying Employees to ‘Volunteer’ for Gun-Control Organizations

In the best attempt to date to unseat Edward Stack as the nation’s Virtue Signaler in Chief, Levi Strauss’s CEO Chip Bergh bravely announced this week his company’s support of “youth activists” working to end the “gun violence epidemic” in America and encouraged other “business leaders” to do the same. “As business leaders with power in the public and political arenas, we simply cannot stand by silently when it comes to the issues that threaten the very fabric of the communities where we live and work,” he said in a recent op-ed published by Fortune. “While taking a stand can be unpopular with some, doing nothing is no longer an option.” Naming his brand among the “pioneers of the American West” and the “great symbols of American freedom,” Bergh outlines three ways he’s hoping to restrict the constitutional rights of his fellow Americans. First, he plans to establish the Safer Tomorrow Fund, which will dole out $1 million in “philanthropic grants” to “nonprofits and youth activists who are working to end gun violence in America.” Next, Bergh and his company will join Everytown for Gun Safety’s new Business Leaders for Gun Safety coalition. Roughly paraphrasing Everytown’s website, this group is working to join banks and other businesses doing their darndest to bankrupt gun companies and marginalize gun owners. Finally, Bergh hopes to incentivize his employees to join him in his righteous crusade. Levi Strauss will double its usual employee donation match to anti-gun organizations and pay employees for sixty working hours per year (5 hours per month) to volunteer for the same organizations...MORE

Levis are my jean company, it's time to own up to being really responsible men &women who own guns & rifles!! Their isn't any real reason to own multi shot weapons U know it & so does everyone else!! As soon as the Military weapons were coming from the armories the arrests should have begun to happen to stop the THIEVERY!! Its what brought the making & selling of the weapons out in the open!! Now, theyre being used for their real purpose...to kill people only its innocents who are being shot & killed...thank you Levi Strauss for being a CONSCIOUS decision maker!!

Right one. I feel the same way.

We need guns with multiple shots because when the next civil war comes and it will we can get the USA back to where it belongs

Hey, GrammaKnowsNothing: semi-automatic weapons don't come from the military. FULL automatic weapons are military. And of course we all should be able to keep weapons designed to kill people, because it isn't squirrels or deer who break into homes to rape women and kill families. Self-defense is a natural right of all people, and you should stop arguing against human rights.

Todd Shene said...

So what you’re saying is Obama and his AG should be arrested for fast and furious? And to correct you, the AR-15 (AR stands for Armilite Rifle. Armilite is the name of the company that makes it.) was first manufactured to sell to civilians. When the Military saw the weapon they decided to order them. So the AR is not a Military weapon that civilians have. It is the other way around. But that is a common mistake made by people that haven’t done the research before making comments.

Anonymous said...

If I want to own a fully automatic rifle I should. The reason for the second amendment was not so I could hunt. It is to protect ourselves from a government who wants to do unlawful things to its citizens. It is for a well governed militia. If I ever need to protect myself and my freedoms from a government who wants to become a dictatorship we can stop them. That is the purpose of the 2nd amendment. I will never support this anti American Levi Strauss again!

Right now we haven't overgrown government that thinks it can control the people but it can't until they take your guns away. Stalin Hitler Mao and Maduro and many others disarm their people and murdered 160 million +. Like I said you want to see gun violence? Please do try to take our guns and start the next civil war. If you think you're going to take firearms from law abiding, patriotic Americans, you are delusional. And please know that when that day arrives, you will see REAL gun violence like never before. We are peaceful people, who spend a lot of time working and minding our own business, but we know from history that when they come for our guns, it's probably time to use them. I hope and pray that day never comes, but many of us have no inclination to live as slaves in the country that our forefathers fought and died to keep free.

Gsmyth said...

There seems to be an assumption by some that modern firearms are more deadly then those of a century ago and that just isnt true. Im reminded of a recent school shooting done with a couple of revolvers and a pump shotgun. Both multi shot weapons and both have been around in their current form since the late 1800's. And neither any more or less deadly then any other firearm currently in use today.
Most guns that can loosely be classified as assault weapons if one wants to have been around in one form or another since the early 1900's and factually again are no more or less deadly now as they were a hundred years ago. Noteworthy is that some years ago i shot a patrol rifle qualification course with an AR15 a 1898 Mauser a 1894 Marlin and a WW2 era M1 Garand
My scores were all very similar and oh... The AR 15 wad on that day the second least powerful of the group. Hadva shooting range in my school growing up. Guns havnt changed for the worst but i fear we as a society have.

Try said...

I quit buying Levi’s years ago when they began promoting homosexual behavior. And if I recollect, the preponderance of the AR-15 type of rifle didn’t really come more into the fore until after the war in Vietnam. I would have loved to have had one but the availability wasn’t there. And the AK has fallen out of favor to be demonized. Now it’s the AR.

PMG said...

It is so simple. People kill people. Guns, knifes, bricks.. whatever. If you are a criminal you will find a way to STAY ARMED. So the innocent, law abiding citizens should be at home unprotected BY LAW and the acknowledgement of the criminals..is that your understanding of citizenship? Our constitution? You felland hit your head, right?

Anonymous said...

This is an older story but it still relevant. The people like this CEO are in no way on a crusade to end gun violence. Passing more laws will do what people that agree with him? Come on-I am serious, what will more laws do? They will do exactly ZERO. Criminals that do mass shootings, murder, robbery, etc-if they already break the law and ignore the laws against these felonies-do you actually think they will care what law you want to pass?? Think. Universal background checks you say. Do criminals buy their guns at the gun stores? Go read some statistics as to how many actually buy them legally. Almost NONE. You say some of these mass shooters have passed background checks-that's the point. How does that work for you? You can't screen people from buying guns that may murder in the future if they have no record. Take everyones guns you say? Yes, because the criminals are just going to hand them over. Think people, use some logic. This CEO is doing nothing but trying in impeded law abiding people-period

Just one more thought here.

Levis Strauss was founded by Jewish immigrants, as was Hollywood and the entertainment industry. There's a fine line between honesty & truth and anti-semitism. Facts are facts, so look at what Disney has done since Michael Eisner took over in the 1980s and how he and his Hollywood friends have destroyed what Walt Disney originally founded. Disney is now a very secular and non-family and non-Christian entity.

There was a 10 year gun band. “ the Brady act”. In that ten year period there were 16 mass shootings. Where did the “ bad guys” get their guns? The gun ban didn’t prevent the murders. You want to do something to help ? You need to stop ILLEGAL black market gun trafficking. Trying to take legal guns from law abiding citizens is not an option and won’t prevent anything. You also need to put your money into the mental health care system.

It is intuitive that fewer guns mean less crime. Unfortunately, the opposite is true. In fact, no restrictive gun law has ever made anyone safer. That's not my opinion that's documented fact from the CDC and National Academy of Sciences. Further, the very anti gun CDC estimated defensive uses of firearms at 2.5 million per year in an unpublished report. We can all guess why the report wasn't published. This man in his elitist arrogance thinks it is his duty to talk down to the little people and tell them what is right. We have a way of causing him to lose his job. There are people killed every minute with cars and trucks and motorcycles. Many more than are killed with guns. The people who are trying to take guns away from law abiding citizens are not going to stop one death. Do your research and see where the gun related crimes are committed. The fact is it's not politically correct to identify the criminals. If the gun crimes are being accidental then guns might be the problem. Until someone has the ball's to stop the criminals this violence will not stop. The people committing the crime must be made afraid to commit them, and government will not enforce the laws that are already on the books now. In most gun related crimes the assailant should be in prison before they do the crime. The people who are screaming gun control are uneducated on firearms and think that the way a gun looks is the problem. How stupid can you be? Put your brains together and make family structure more important. Take away the incentives away that encourage fathers to stay out of the household to increase benefits for the children. Hell in years past families didn't benefit from broken homes. Now marriage is discouraged because it decreases the welfare benefits. Offer jobs instead of welfare for people who are able to work. Reinstate the draft. At least the youth will know what right and wrong is and they will learn some respect. Our country will have a great military and the cost will be covered by less crimes which costs the taxpayers billions.

Christine said...

New statistic for you ... 71% of current youth are NOT eligible for military because 1) No high school diploma; 2) History of drug use (for medical conditions and illegal); 3) Have a criminal record.

You obviously know nothing about military guns. This is not a put down, as most people think the ar-15 is a military weapon because that's what the media keeps telling you. It's a .223cal round basically a glorified 22. It only fires one round at a time. You have to pull the trigger every time you want the rifle to fire. Just because it looks like something the military uses is not the same thing. These are manufactured for civilian sales not stolen from some armory and sold on the black market.

I hope I have cleared up a few of your misconceptions.

You want to help with gun control, let’s get better background checks. Let’s help train more people about guns. Make people train and qualify to carry guns. For about the past 38 years, unless I am wearing a business suit, shots, or PJs, I have been wearing pretty much only Levi's jeans. 501s, 505s, 510s, jean jackets, or pretty much anything, as long as it had the little red tab. Throughout high school, college, business school, graduate school, law school, weekends, vacations, barhopping, hiking, hunting with my roommates from grad school, construction work, yard work, hundreds of hours on shooting ranges, biking in -20°F weather, getting my first BJ, visiting dozens of countries overseas, honeymoon, climbing Kilimanjaro, climbing Eiffel Tower, climbing Mt Whitney, birth of my kids, accompanying my kids to their first kindergarden class, attending my kids sports tournaments or musical performances, teaching my kids to shoot, attending my kids high school graduations, opening up my business, etc., Levi’s jeans were with me. My mom, my girlfriend, my wife, all knew what size I wore, and knew what is an easy present to get me any Christmas or birthday, that I’d love to get. The recurring stories about the current management’s stand vis-à-vis gun rights, made me reconsider the vendor of my jeans. Last week I purchased my first pair of jeans that were not Levi’s. Yes, I still have 4 or 5 Levi’s in my closet (one still unopened), but as they wear out over the next many months, they are not going to be replaced by Levi’s jeans but by another brand. I know that losing me as a customer will not make any difference to Levi’s, for I am likely not their target customer anyway.
