Some Crocodile Species can Climb Trees: Research

The University of Tennessee researchers have come up with new findings saying that some species of crocodile can climb trees. Vladimir Dinets, a research assistant professor in the Department of Psychology, and his colleagues observed crocodile species on three continents and explored earlier research. The observation made by them was really astonishing. They found that four species of crocodiles climbed trees. The four tree-climbing species are Australian freshwater crocodiles, American crocodiles, Central African slender-snouted crocodiles and Nile crocodiles. The authors wrote online Jan. 25 in the journal Herpetology Notes, "The most frequent observations of tree-basking were in areas where there were few places to bask on the ground, implying that the individuals needed alternatives for regulating their body temperature".
