Professor mauled by bear released from hospital

A Juneau assistant professor who was mauled by a bear earlier last month was released from the hospital Monday. Forest Wagner was leading a group of college students on Mount Emmerich near Haines when he was mauled by a brown bear April 18. The 35-year-old was medevaced to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, where he was originally listed in “critical” condition. A UAS news release said Wagner is continuing outpatient physical therapy and wound care in Anchorage. In a statement issued to UAS today, Wagner thanked everyone for their support and said, “I’m doing well, currently walking on crutches and scheduled to return to Juneau the week of May 23.”...more
