The U.S. National Forest Service (USFS) says the Unauthorized Noncommerical Group Use Incident, also known as the Rainbow Family Gathering, has relocated to a different area within the Plumas National Forest.
The USFS says the Rainbow Family Gathering is made up of people from across the United States and various other countries, ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 people. The members of the group start arriving in the days leading up to the Fourth of July, and the highest activity is observed in the days before and after the holiday.
The gathering was originally being held in the Indian Creek Headwaters area on the Mount Hough Ranger District. However, the Plumas National Forest issued a closure in the area on Wednesday, which is in effect until July 15, or until the USFS determines it can be lifted...more
