Patty grew up in Amarillo, Texas, but lived most of her life in New Mexico. She had been a resident of Roswell for 20 years. Patty was a golf enthusiast and enjoyed classical music, with a special fondness for pianist Douglas Montgomery. Patty had a distinguished career as an advocate for early intervention, special education and other services for children and families with special needs. She was instrumental in the creation of the New Mexico Medical Insurance Pool, providing health care coverage for New Mexicans who could not obtain or afford health insurance. She was also instrumental in obtaining funding for Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research and numerous other projects to support and enhance the quality of life for New Mexicans. Although Patty was known as a tireless advocate, the truth is her career was second to her love and passion for her family.
A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at 2 p.m., at the Roswell Convention & Civic Center, 912 N.
