Study of Horse Slaughter Plant Gets ND House Nod

North Dakota lawmakers have agreed to set aside $50,000 for a possible study of a horse slaughter plant. New laws and public sentiment against horse processing have resulted in the recent closure of U.S. plants. Selfridge Rep. Rod Froelich says that makes it difficult for ranchers to dispose of horses that are old or injured. He says North Dakota should try to solve the problem. Representatives voted 89-5 on Wednesday to set aside money for a study. The state`s Agricultural Products Utilization Commission would have to approve the project. The bill says state money for the study would have to be matched by private industry. The legislation now goes to the North Dakota Senate. The bill is HB1496...KFYR-TV News

The recent proposals regarding the opening of slaughter plants is a sneaky underhanded method of trying to manipulate our country at it's weakest time. Slaughter is not humane. There are reports available from the USDA detailing the atrocities that have taken place when slaughtering horses. The greedy and irresponsible want everyone to ignore that when trying to prey on the American public and get them to allow this to happen. The greedy want us to ignore that horses are not hard to dispose of and in fact, since the USA slaughterhouses have closed, slaughter statistics are UP 138% as our horses are still being sold to kill buyers and transported to Canada and Mexico.
Our horses are an icon, a part of our American heritage. They have carried our soldiers to safety. They rehabilitate our physically handicapped. How many little girls and boys have begged for a horse for their birthday? They are favorite companions and are posing with Presidents and Generals in portraits and statues. Our police use them and they are their partners. Horses helped us settle and progess in this country. Pick up a history book and look at all we have accomplished because of the horse. Don't betray them and turn your back on them when they now need us. Contact your state representatives and tell them you are OPPOSED to HORSE SLAUGHTER PLANTS!!
