Record red meat production in 2008
There was more red meat produced in 2008 than any other year in U.S. history. According to the USDA, beef, pork, veal, lamb and mutton production was 50.362 billion pounds, up 3% from 2007, as strong demand was met by the large supply of available livestock. Also, economic concerns pushed more animals to market as producers were facing high feed prices last year.
