House Committee Debates Guns and Mexican Border
The House Judiciary Committee heard proposals Wednesday for increased gun control inside the United States as a means of cutting down on drug violence along both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. "How many officers have to be killed before we impose more gun regulation," asked Representative Jackson Lee, a Texas Democrat. Democrats have called for better gun control within the United States which they say supplies 90 percent of the firearms seized in Mexico, guns that have contributed significantly to that country's epidemic of violence. Mexico itself enforces strict gun laws where residents are allowed only non-military, low-caliber guns with long prison terms for those who violate gun laws. But Republicans on the Judiciary Committee argued against gun control in the United States, maintaining that Mexican officials need to do more to stop the smuggling of guns into their country. Committee members noted that the violence has spread deep within the United States. The Tucson Citizen reported, for example, that five men were found dead with their throats slit as far away from the Mexican border as Birmingham, Alaska. They had been electrically shocked before they were killed for a drug debt estimated at $400,000. Texas Republican Lamar Smith commented, "Regrettably, some are using the violence along the border as justification for stricter gun laws." Representative Ted Poe, also a Texas Republican, took a similar line. "It seems like Mexico has a responsibility in keeping guns from coming in," he said, "like we do with drugs."...Courthouse News

Leave our guns alone. We who live on the border need and use guns correctly and with respect. We also have shovels, screwdrivers, and axes as part of our equipment used wrong they too can kill people are you going to take them away too? There is nothing more dangerous than the car wrecks the illegals are causing on our highways killing innocent AMERICANS. And the driver who usually lives...flees the scene. He/she is very rarely held accountable for the damage of the car accident. It is illegal to leave a scene of an accident they do it daily and do not care who they have killed or injured. It is part of our right to own a gun any gun we see fit. We do not need our guns limited to the size and caliber. The illegal’s who are crossing the border and are using the guns wrong not us. Limiting our guns will only make us sitting ducks as the illegal’s who will still be well armed. The border issue is serious. As usual this administration has the idea to punish law abiding citizen and we will pay for such a destructive idea...with our lives. In our area we do have limits on guns at the present time. First you have to be an AMERICAN CITIZEN. You have to prove that and back ground checks are run. Secondly stores such as Wal-Mart or that are limiting the amount of ammunition one can purchase in a day. Third the guns stores have also been squeezed on by ATF and are cracking down on all gun and ammo purchasing. They are under even tougher laws. So we are already policing ourselves. BUT DO NOT ...TAKE AWAY THE GUNS FROM THE PEOPLE. If a criminal wants one...he or she will just go somewhere else to get it. The only option you have is to make serious consequences for the illegal’s that are crossing the border not just slap their hands and turn them back. For example can we as AMERICANS cross at any place along the border without documentation? NO. We can ONLY CROSS AT legal ports of entry. To get back into the US you had better have your paper work in order. Should you be brave enough to cross the border as AN AMERICAN...at just any place along the border...and the federalies or drug cartels should find you. You will not see the light of day nor will the country of Mexico and its government be concerned if you need health care, free education, a home or a job! See they have a constant attitude toward illegal crossers. That is why the invasion is coming NORTH NOT GOING SOUTH. Investigate how they do it on the southern end of Mexico. It is not pretty. If you should do this be aware you have no rights no civil rights in Mexico so be very careful! You will be lucky if you get a phone to call home.
Once again the do-gooder liberals are trying to distort facts. The facts are that 17% of guns used in the drug trade originate in the US. The rest are either untraceable or originate in other countries. The lie continues . . .
