Government Report Details Climate Impacts
The U.S. government’s newest survey of the impacts of climate change is meant to “educate” the public and policy makers about an issue that keeps slipping down the priority list of most Americans. The new report lays out a detailed picture of the impacts of rising temperatures in the U.S., from rising sea levels that threaten the Southeast, to water shortages that will dessicate the Southwest, to the decline of the maple syrup industry in the Northeast. The upshot? Rising temperatures are indisputable and “primarily” human-induced. Climate change poses all kinds of risks to every aspect of American life, but prompt action to curb the emission of greenhouse-gases could help stave off the worst of the impacts.
