The Navajo Nation is seeking a court order to evict two longtime ranchers from tribal land in northwestern New Mexico. Loretta and Raymond Morris have held a lease for the 5,500-acre ranch north of Crownpoint for more than 40 years. They were recommended for a lease renewal in 2008, but the tribe instituted a bidding process a year later and they lost. The tribe contends they have refused for months to move their cattle off the ranch. The Morrises' attorney, Jim Zion, says the ranch program didn't have clear standards for bid assessments. He also says the ranchers were denied due process because they weren't allowed to inspect the bid documents or protest the awards. The case was scheduled for trial Tuesday, but Loretta Morris says it's been postponed. AP
