Arizona gun club offers photos with Santa, rifles - New contest at The Westerner

An Arizona gun club is offering a chance for children and their families to pose for photos with Santa while holding pistols and military-style rifles. One image shows Santa in a wingback chair with a snowflake background, a Christmas tree behind him and flanked by an $80,000 machine gun and a tripod-mounted rifle. Next to Santa is a man standing behind a boy, who is holding an unloaded AR-15 with an attached grenade launcher. Ron Kennedy, general manager of the Scottsdale Gun Club, says the business got the idea for the photo op last year when a club member happened to come in dressed as Santa and other members wanted their picture taken while they were holding their guns...more

This calls for a new bunch of Christmas carols, like:

I Saw Mommy Shooting Santa Claus

Silencer Night

Rudolph, The Rifle Totin' Reindeer

Joy To The Winchester

Jingle Shells, Jingle Shells

You get the picture and let's have a contest.  Who can come up with the best gun-related Christmas carol.

Put your entry in the comments section or email them to flankcinch@hotmail.com

Winner will receive World-Wide Recognition on The Westerner!

Nothing says "Happy Birthday" to the Prince of Peace more than people posing with heavy weapons designed to end human life in front of a pagan symbol of the commercialization of Christmas. Just think how much more efficient Harod's slaughter of the innocents would have been with these weapons.

Hi Frank... Fist, I love your blog! My wife and I will be escaping the East Coast in a few years for Wyoming. We already own land there.

Second, ignore the douche nozzle who made the first post.

And now, some songs:

Frosty the Glockman

Merry Christmas Marlin

The Night Vision Before Christmas

Wilson Combat Wonderland

Thanks again for a great blog and Merry Christmas!

Ty

From the douchebag...so much for the first amendment in defense of the second...

'Twas the night before Christmas
and all through the house
not a creature was stirring,
not even a mouse,
the shotgun was propped by the chimney with care,
in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

I have lived in the west for 42 years. I own three handguns, a rifle, and a shot gun. Some of the fondest memories as a child are shooting with my friends on National Forest lands, something it is becoming increasinly harder to do. Some of us may actually find the gun club Christmas effort a bit incongruous with the spirit of the season.

I am not an east coast equity refugee who is coming out here to be an urban cowboy.

"so much for the first amendment in defense of the second"

Actually, it's the second amendment that defends the first, not the other way around.

And I didn't call you a douchebag. I called you a douche NOZZLE. Huge difference!

As for your 'equity refugee' insult... I'm from the West. So is my wife.

Now lighten up, Francis.

Welcome home. Why did you ever leave paradise.

my reflection on the story was not a reason for name calling. shame on you. Perhaps you have been away so long that you have forgotten the character of the west that fosters civility and hospitality no mater what the disagreement.

Easterners do have a peculiar influence on the west. They want the rural lifestyle, but then want 4H programs eliminated from high schools because the animals are sold and slaughtered or otherwise exploited at the end of the school year (its called animal husbandry for a reason) or want to live in farms but want the odor of fertilization regulated as a nuisance.

To continue the dialog, with the 50 cal in the photo, the little drummer boy could go "rat-a-tat-tat" instead of "rumpty-tum-tum".

And as the pen is mightier than the sword, I disagree about the second protecting the first. the first is protected through its exercise, just as the second is protected through citizen ownership of firearms.

Welcome home, Ty. Do folks need to lighten up, or what?

"Perhaps you have been away so long that you have forgotten the character of the west that fosters civility and hospitality no mater what the disagreement."

I wish that were true. You mean civility like this, right?

"I am not an east coast equity refugee who is coming out here to be an urban cowboy."

I have lived in the West most of my adult life, and this "Real Cowboy" complex, along with its brother "them thar outsiders" complex is a bunch of bullshit. I hate to break it to you, but not all the problems in the West are a result of "them thar outsiders". Incidentally, would you like to tell the rest of us how those "equity refugees" got ahold of that land in the first place? Might it be greedy and/or desparate "born'n'raised" types selling out that which they claim to care so much about? No, you really haven't lived until a born'n'raised townie who can't throw a rope, ride a horse, or drive standard shift runs your ass down because you weren't "born'n'raised" in their backyard.

Perhaps heavy weaponry would have made Herod a more efficient killer. Of course, heavy weaponry back in the day in the hands of the Jews may have prevented the Roman conquest, thus preventing the puppet Herod in the first place. It really does not matter how efficient the tools are in the end, though. What matters is the content of the soul if you ask me.

If the pen is mightier than the sword, why do posters here refuse to sign to their posts here? Will not the pen protect them from the wrath they must fear?

Criticism is in no way an assault on the First Amendment. This is not even a public forum. It is Frank's private property, last I checked. I'm glad he lets us visit it and post here.

Military service.

"my reflection on the story was not a reason for name calling. shame on you. Perhaps you have been away so long that you have forgotten the character of the west that fosters civility and hospitality no mater what the disagreement."

Fair enough, the "douche nozzle" bit, while funny (lets face it) was probably uncalled for.

Having said that, you were over the line lecturing the blog owner about the meaning of Christmas when the blog entry was clearly just having a little tongue in cheek fun.

As for Easterners... I don't like most of 'em anymore than you do. And I encourage them to stay in the East. They aren't all bad, but they don't understand the West. Southern good 'ol boys get it, but most others don't.

For Brett ... "It is Frank's private property, last I checked. I'm glad he lets us visit it and post here."

Well said! Frank is very kind to put up with this stuff.

Now that we've hugged and made up lets all have a cold beer.

Merry Christmas!

Thank you for your service, Ty.

In retrospect, I believe that all of us may have gone off half cocked here (Frank excepted). I think it may be a function of living in a world that is changing rapidly, often times in ways that we do not believe is for the better. I know that this is how I feel.

You will find no disagreement with me on the bulk of newcomers here from the East Coast. It may in fact apply to both coasts. The bulk do not get life out here, and it saddens me to think that they make no effort to understand it before riding roughshod. I have derived much pleasure out of studying and becoming a part of the West, and have done my best to orient myself as caretaker rather than taker. Good for you for coming home while you still could. I know that you will enjoy it, and I pray you do as much as I have.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas. It is good to see that there are still people that do care, and that do remember the reason behind all the celebrations and what-not. I will pray for you all, and humbly ask that you do the same for me. God bless.

Please accept my apologies for the ill will this caused. Seems like the only time I open my mouth is to change feet.

I noticed this story is filed under civil liberties. I am pleased that we live in a country where we can have these passionate exchanges.

I think one thing we can all agree on in that we each enjoy the Westerner. I am greatful to Mr. DuBois for assembling it every day. I check it right after the local news.

A very happy and joyful holiday to all.
