An unusual ceremony is scheduled in Gallup Wednesday when the U.S. Forest Service delivers donations to its food bank as part of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Tour. The tree was cut in California and is making its way to Washington, D.C. As part of its cross-country trek, the Forest Service this year incorporated a humanitarian outreach program into the tour, gathering non-perishable food donations from across California to deliver to Gallup. Gallup was selected because it was recently cited by the U.S. Census as 1 of the poorest cities in America...more
Merry Christmas Gallup. What an honor!
Its natural for the Forest Service to highlight poverty...it occurs wherever you find the Forest Service.
And here's a hint: Don't start a fire to heat up them canned goods until Smokey has left town.

i understand where you're coming from and i agree with you somewhat, have you stopped to think about what the west would be like without state and federal efforts, i doubt very much if all would be as available to us, the people as it is now!?

Guess you have to had experienced the ineptness and dishonest of the federal agencies to understand Frank's comments on the forest service. Cynical? No honest...
bearfoot, I was feeling a little cantankerous yesterday, but when it comes to the Forest Service, we'd be better off without them.
Anonymous, having seen the Forest Service: put ranching families out of business, put small rural businesses on the ropes and damage local school districts amongst other things, I do find it ironic they would make a big deal out of helping the less fortunate.
