Analysis of Madeleine Pickens’ eco-sanctuary plan begins
Federal authorities have started to analyse the proposal for a wild horse eco-sanctuary in northwest Nevada backed by Madeleine Pickens. The Bureau of Land Management has published its intent to prepare an environmental impact statement to analyze the potential impacts of the proposed sanctuary, which would operate as a public-private partnership. The proposal is to create a wild horse eco-sanctuary of a non-reproductive herd on most of the existing Spruce Grazing Allotment, including about 14,000 acres of private land and 508,000 acres of public land. The land is about 25 miles southeast of Wells, Nevada. The wild horse eco-sanctuary would be operated by Saving America’s Mustangs, a non-profit group, which has bought the Spruce Ranch and acquired the associated grazing permit in the Spruce Allotment.
