Sen. Mike Lee blasts ‘closed-door backroom deals’ on gun bill; demands full text
On the Senate floor moments ago, Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, reminded his colleagues that they still didn’t have the full text of the gun control bill they were about to vote on. Lee explained that the text of the background check compromise proposed by Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., on Wednesday had still not been revealed. “As of this morning, as of this very moment, not a single senator has been provided with the legislative text of that very provision.” Lee stated, reminding his colleagues that the provision was the “heart” of the bill. "We should not be legislating by negotiating closed-door backroom deals away from the eyes of the American people,” Lee stated. “We should not be voting before we read and understand exactly how these proposals will affect the rights law abiding citizens.” {link}
