CBP seizes cocaine, marijuana in Santa Teresa

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized five pounds of cocaine and 552 pounds of marijuana Thursday at the Santa Teresa border crossing, officials said Friday. About 1 p.m., CBP officers found the cocaine hidden in the air intake manifold in the engine of a Ford Explorer coming from Mexico, officials said. CBP officers arrested Jose Carlos Payan Nuñez, 22, of Chihuahua City, in connection with the drug-smuggling attempt. About 4:30 p.m., CBP officers found 215 packages of marijuana in the walls of an empty horse trailer being pulled by a pickup, officials said. Adrian Valentin Perez Guillen, 28, of Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, was arrested on suspicion of drug smuggling.
