Forest Service land deal blocks controversial Tahoe development
A deal to sell 120 acres overlooking Lake Tahoe near Brockway Summit has halted controversial plans for a campground development.
On Wednesday Sierra Pacific Industries and Mountainside Partners announced a plan to sell the property they had planned to develop into a private campground.
The deal hasn’t yet closed. But, working through the California Tahoe Conservancy, Sierra Pacific and the Forest Service have agreed in principle to a sale.
“Although an improved campground is permissible under current zoning and would provide significant recreational benefits, we have listened to the community and have decided that the parcel should be permanently protected through a sale to the Forest Service,” said Blake Riva, managing partner of Mountainside Partners.
