San Juan County leaders in DC to meet with interior secretary about Bears Ears
(KUTV) The three commissioners of San Juan County are in Washington
D.C. ahead of a meeting with the Department of the Interior where they
plan to support the repeal of the national monument designation of the
Bears Ears. The DOI is in the process of reviewing all national monuments that have been designated in the past 21 years, including Bears Ears and Grand Staircase – Escalante national monuments. The
commission has a scheduled meeting with Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke
Tuesday morning, in addition to meetings with all of the congressional
delegates from Utah. Commissioner Bruce Adams spoke with 2News by
phone Monday morning and said the county leaders do not plan to make an
emotional plea to Secretary Zinke, rather they intend to present “facts”
about the protections the county and state already had on the land that
is now under federal control...more
