Two inmates escaped from the Sandoval County Detention Center late
Friday night according to a spokesman for the Sandoval County Sheriff’s
Department. Around 11:30 p.m. it was discovered that one of the inmates was
missing, deputy Kieth Elder said. Shortly after that a second inmate was
also discovered to be missing. One of the escapees is Paul Garcia, 25, who was arrested in February after stealing a van and killing a mother and daughter after he crashed into their vehicle. The other escapee, Blake McPherson, 21, was being held for motor
vehicle theft and other theft charges from San Juan and San Miguel
counties, Elder said. Elder said that both of the inmates are “still at large.”
