Dear Editors,
The
attached column is my last for a regular offering of Cowgirl Sass &
Savvy. After a 15 year run of writing it 52 weeks a year, I have
decided to retire the column. I want to say a heartfelt
thank you for a long, solid relationship with many of you. You are very
much appreciated.
I
considered writing a “riding off into the sunset” column, but after
tossing it around both in my head and on paper, I opted to just ride
away quietly. It’s not a funeral but more like standing
before other doors deciding which one to open first.
Again, thank you for your loyalty to my Cowgirl Sass & Savvy writings and to the readers who enjoyed them.
Sincerely,
Julie Carter
Cowgirl Sass & Savvy.
It's been a more than ten year relationship at The Westerner, and what a ride it has been.
Thank you Julie, for all the great stories about the cowboy culture and your beautifully written meanderings through the West and its rural inhabitants.
It is more than a column. You have created a body of work that will be savored, referred to and enjoyed by readers, and yes, scholars, far into the future.
I don't know which new doors you will open, but I sincerely thank you for the door to the modern day cowboy and cowgirl that you have opened for all your readers.
As for me personally, I was able to quit alcohol with relatively few withdrawal symptoms. That is certainly not the case with tobacco and I'm not ready to quit Carter cold turkey. With your permission, we'll have plenty "rerides" of Cowgirl Sass & Savvy at The Westerner.
That door is gonna stay cracked open and spare me those terrible withdrawal miseries.
