BLM officers shoot, kill man
A suspect is dead after exchanging gunfire with Bureau of Land Management law enforcement officers Sunday afternoon in the desert near the Bookcliffs.
The incident took place at 2:46 p.m., when two BLM officers made contact with a white van near 27¼ Road on BLM property about a mile from the Grand Junction BLM Rifle Range, according to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.
One BLM officer was shot in his protective vest, but isn't thought to be seriously injured. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Preliminary information indicated that the BLM officer was able to return fire and fatally wounded the suspect. The circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation...MORE
