EPA announces record-setting recall of 500K trucks due to faulty emission systems

The Environmental Protection Agency announced a massive recall to the tune of 500,000 medium- and heavy-duty trucks due to faulty emissions control components on Tuesday, July 31. According to a news release from the U.S. federal agency, Cummins Inc. will recall about 500,000 2010-2015 trucks that are equipped with a component "that causes excess emissions of nitrogen oxides." The EPA says this is the largest voluntary truck emissions related recall ever, and that the problem stems from a defective part and not a defeat device. The EPA says that an earlier recall including 232,000 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks are included, which brings the total number of those affected up to about 770,000.
