Historic Route 66 Hotel for Sale in Gallup, New Mexico

GALLUP, N.M. (AP) — A historic hotel on Route 66 in New Mexico is for sale. The Gallup Independent reports an organization that owns Lexington Hotel in Gallup, New Mexico, say it no longer has the funds to keep the hotel running. CARE 66 Executive Director Sanjay Choudhrie says the organization still owes about $1 million on the facility that is home to about 30 men, many of whom are veterans. Choudhrie says the hotel provides rooms to people who once lived on the streets. The downtown Gallup hotel was built in the early 1900s. New Mexico has the longest stretch of Route 66 passing through urban communities. Decommissioned as a U.S. highway in 1985, Route 66 went through eight states. AP
