Governor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts presented

The Governor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts, celebrating the role artists and supporters play in the cultural and economic life of New Mexico, were given out Friday. The program, established in 1974 by Gov. Bruce King and first lady Alice King, recognizes “living artists and arts supporters who have demonstrated lifetime achievement in their art form or contributions to the arts in New Mexico,” according to a news release. This year’s recipients were:

Bruce Dunlap of Santa Fe, artist, music.
• Curtis Fort of Tatum, artist, sculpture/bronze.
• Jody Naranjo of Albuquerque, artist, ceramics, bronze and glass.
• Jerry R. West of Santa Fe, artist, painting and other media.
• Lucy R. Lippard of Galisteo, major contributor to the arts.
• Meow Wolf of Santa Fe, major contributor to the arts..MORE.
