Trump set to talk to farmers in New Orleans as shutdown slows aid checks

President Trump will fly to New Orleans on Monday to speak at the National Farm Bureau Federation's annual convention. The trip, first reported by the New Orleans Advocate, comes amid a partial government shutdown over Trump's proposed south border wall that affects the Department of Agriculture. Multiple outlets have reported that farmers are struggling to obtain support checks owed as part of the aid package meant to alleviate financial pain due to the Trump administration's trade war. "This year will mark the federation's 100th annual convention and President Trump looks forward to touting positive impacts of the recently-signed (United States-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement) as well as the recently passed Farm Bill," Judd Deere, a White House spokesman, told the Advocate in an email.
