Luna County Supports Presidential Border Emergency Declaration
The Luna County Commissioners passed Resolution 19-14 Friday which supports the Presidential declaration of a national emergency concerning the southern border of the United States. The all Republican Commission voted unanimously in favor of the Resolution.
Luna County Attorney Charles Kretek told Deming Radio News that The County Commission wants to support the President since Luna County is one of three New Mexico counties forming the 180-mile border with Mexico, 60 miles of which is located in Luna County. The resolution states in part, “The Board of County Commissioners of Luna County… declares its support for National Emergency Declaration along the southern border of the United States of America.”
According to the declaration, The Commissioners will also support any and all efforts to secure the border and calls upon its statewide elected officials and representatives to set aside the polarizing partisan dialogue and the waste of public money opposing such efforts. AP
