Two more large groups cross at Antelope Wells

The U.S. Border Patrol announced two large groups of people were apprehended at the Camp Bounds Forward Operating Base adjacent to the Antelope Wells port of entry. Approximately 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Border Patrol agents took custody of 243 people. On Thursday morning, agents apprehended 209 people. Early Tuesday morning, Border Patrol reported a group of 230 were apprehended at Antelope Wells. That's 682 people over three consecutive nights. The groups were comprised primarily of Central American families and unaccompanied juveniles, according to a Border Patrol news release. The federal agency described the border crossers as "illegal aliens" in a release. It's not clear from the release whether they were seeking asylum in the United States. The Border Patrol has been dealing with an influx of Central American migrants, many seeking asylum, in recent months. If centers in El Paso are full, the Border Patrol will drop them off in Las Cruces. Most of the asylum seekers, who are awaiting a court hearing, stay in temporary housing facilities in these cities for a few days before leaving to be with family and sponsors in other parts of the country...MORE
