Pie Town pie shop closed for good
PIE TOWN, N.M.- Pie-O-Neer Pies, a popular bakery and New Mexico staple in the heart of Pie Town, has closed its doors for good amid COVID-19.
They closed on June 15.
“To close a business is a huge step. To close a business that has been your life’s work is walking away from something you loved and nurtured, “said Pie-O-Neer’s owner, Kathy Knapp. “You have to be realistic about the money, the bills and the utilities. The overhead doesn’t stop. When there’s no income, you can only put things off for so long; you have to make decisions, choices.”
Knapp said they tried alternatives but to no avail. Knapp said the decision to shut down after 25 years wasn’t an easy one.
“The lines blur. The lines blur when your business is your life,” she said. “It’s a family business. It always was and then friends came along to replace family members, and they became like family.”
