Authorities Investigating Death at Burning Man as Storms Leave Thousands Stranded in Nevada Desert

 



Authorities in Nevada are investigating a death at the Burning Man festival in the Black Rock Desert, where thousands of attendees are trapped due to flooding from storms. 

The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office said the death happened during the event but did not share a suspected cause of death or the identity of the deceased person, according to KNSD-TV.

The festival site received more than one-half inch of rain on Friday, the National Weather Service in Reno reported, with at least another quarter of an inch of rain expected Sunday, leaving the festivalgoers in muddy conditions.

“Conserve food, water, and fuel, and shelter in a warm, safe space,” the Burning Man Organization said in a statement to attendees.

Organizers are also rationing ice sales, according to the Reno Gazette Journal. A pause on all vehicle traffic at the festival grounds — aside from emergency vehicles — has meant portable toilets cannot be serviced...more
