Hunters should remember that motorized vehicle rules apply to e-bikes in the Thunder Basin National Grassland and Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
E-bikes have been a point of contention recently with the Forest Service fielding multiple complaints from recreationists reporting inappropriate use of the vehicles by hunters on National Forest System land, a Sept. 7 release states.
According to the Forest Service, e-bikes are classified as motorized vehicles, which means anyone using them must stay on motorized trails and roads.
“Hunters may not use e-bikes to access the backcountry behind locked gates and via closed roads or non-motorized trails,” the Forest Service says, adding that it is the recreationist’s responsibility to know where they are and what types of restrictions there may be when accessing public lands...more
