Red Bluff Round-Up cancels Cowgirls Breakaway Roping Competition

The Red Bluff Round-Up is canceling their Cowgirls Breakaway Roping event. Now, community members are asking them to reconsider.

In 2018, the Red Bluff Round-Up was one of the first California rodeos to bring breakaway roping events up to the professional level. This led a surge of rodeos across the state to do the same, and now members of the local rodeo community are worried it will be the first to get rid of it.

“In 2018, women traveled from all over to be able to rope at that rodeo," says Kaeley Owen. "In thanks for supporting them, they came to support the Round-Up and I think that that needs to be reciprocated."

...The posts allege the cancellation was due to conflict between the Women's Professional Rodeo Association and one of the directors on the Red Bluff Roundup board over how much the payout for the breakaway roping competition should be. When reached for comment, the WPRA says they are working with the Roundup to resolve the issue and will release a statement on their response after a meeting later this week.

Stacy says the Roundup Board of Directors are convening a special meeting on Wednesday, March 6th, to discuss the issue again, and possibly revote on it. ..more
